well, blogger's finally decided to work on the communal mac in the lab *blink* it didn't want to the other day. *mutter*

anyway, am feeling.. as my mood says, calm. no big ups or downs. my first major bout of homesickness (mainly for my mom, dog and computer) is over. though that lasted quite a long time. *sniff* work's starting to make more sense, and i'm finally doing stuff, making media, pouring plates, sterilizing and spreading seeds on the aforementioned plates, not particularly exciting.. but fits into the 'no big ups or downs' bit.

jieru and myself touristed ourselves out over the weekend. went to see Edinburgh Castle, apparently the thing to see here, and that was gorgeous, the war museums, with their exhibits of swords and old medals, stories of what it used to be like, and the exhibit of the Scottish crown jewels, along with scepter and various elaborate chains and pendants, each with their own fascinating history. and the 12th century chapel, my personal favourite part of the castle, the oldest part, built by King David in honor (?) of his mother, who was later made a saint. lovely stained glass windows.

also went to the royal botanical gardens, which were, beautiful. you'll have to trust me on that, as i doubt i'll be developing any photos here due to the absolutely exorbitant prices, but seriously, a lovely, lovely place. sat down on the grass in the sun surrounded by little white flowers and had our lunch. very peaceful. *small smile*

also went to the camera obscura, a 150 year old (!) camera built on top of a building near the castle. built by a woman too, btw, very unusual for that time. 1853 i believe it was built. anyhow, it projects a live moving image of edinburgh onto a concave table that you stand around. and they gave us a guided 'tour' of edinburgh by rotating the camera around on the roof, through a pole like device. told us all sorts of interesting things, like, for example, the bank of scotland was established by an englishman and the bank of england by a scotsman *laugh* and that the science faculty buildings of the university of edinburgh (not the campus i'm working in thank goodness *grin*) were voted the ugliest buildings on edinburghs skyline *rofl* and lots of other stuff that i shan't go on about, but that was -so- cool. also on the lower floors, they had the largest plasma globe in europe, and this morphing machine developed by St Andrew's University, which took a photo of you, and 'morphed' it into a manga, chimp, baby or caricature version. *laugh* both me and jieru had a go, twas so funny *grin*

anyway, guess i'd better go, have some discussion or other to do, experiment starting -early- tomorrow, and i'll have to be here abt 12 hours *faint* ah well *grin* s'long as i have the computer i'll be alright *innocence* :p
