a few interesting news sites on the 'war against iraq'. rather depressing ones, since none of us can do anything to stop this bloody farce from going ahead, but interesting reading nonetheless.

and, as a sidenote, i've lately really been appreciating the BBC coverage more. not that it's completely unbiased, no newsteam could be, but at least there's some reflection of the views of the other side of the debate.

and that's one long weekend almost over, with this to show for it. The report currently has 8470 words, excluding the appendices (which are about 50+ pages by themselves), and the abstract, and it's a grand total of 48 pages long. *cackle* 48 pages of utter bullshite! whee! we're gooooood man. haha. *highfives sarah* still can't believe we actually managed to do it, honestly. *faint*

have been doing our final year project report the whole day. and i'm still on the introduction, while my workaholic partner there has managed to plough through materials and methods, and scanned in all our gel photos and commented on them for results! *gobsmacked* and done a right good job of it too. *highfives sarah* we rock! even if the examiners don't agree. *snicker* only 1200 words for the intro though. meep. think we need another 5000 or so. *sigh* have decided to pass it up on monday if dr zaman agrees. or even if she doesn't, well, we don't have the time to finish it, so too bad. heh. and i think i'm developing carpal tunnel syndrome from all this bloody typing.

choices, choices, choices. too many of them, and far too many 'if's around. *sigh* if i get a student loan, if we sell the house in australia, if i get a job, if i get a scholarship or bursary, if i magically manage to get australian PR, if if bloody if. went to the american education fair yesterday with peiyi, who's also having her second thoughts about going to the UK to get her biochem degree. if i had the cash, i'd go in a heartbeat, but she wants tissue engineering I believe, which is under a completely different discipline. ah well, i guess she'll sort it all out eventually, as we all will. US is out. extra 2 years and that kind of safety, under that kind of government? heh. hell no. i have no idea what i'm going to do. have a vague idea of what i want to do with my life, but that doesn't help when you're trying to juggle citizenship, family, finances and ambition. spoke to sushila chang yesterday, think i'm quite sold on UQ, perhaps majoring in zoology or marine biology, or maybe a double major with biochemistry or molecular cell biology. thing is, when to go? *sigh* work for 6 mths? 2 years? not at all and just get a student loan? *groan* too hard!

not that i even have time to worry about that. it's quite scary how different 3rd year is from 2nd and 1st. for one thing, i vaguely remember having some sort of a life. we used to hang out in a big group, go out after school, watch movies, have class BBQs and chalets. now? rushed lunch with sarah in canteen 3, back to the lab/lecturer's office/library/home, busybusybusy. hardly talk to most of my old friends, ex-classmates etc. certainly don't watch any movies, though a modicum of retail therapy is always available. heh. not that i have the cash for that either. saw a bloody gorgeous mango suede bag the other day. as soon as i get $63 up... oh who'm i kidding, it'll be gone by then. *sulks* right, back to the bloody report, after all, only been doing it for the past 13 hours.

this weeks friday five:

1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not?
i suppose i do. occasionally. with certain select people. i used to spend absolutely HOURS on the phone, but nowadays i prefer chatting online, because i can multitask. lol. on the phone it's too easy for people to notice you're distracted.

2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone?
Cath I believe.

3. About how many telephones do you have at home?
4. one in my room, the fax machine next to the computer, and my and my mothers cell phones.

4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened?
oh god. always. and it's always those old uncles and aunties on the bus. *rolls eyes* we don't NEED to hear your entire phone conversation thankyouverymuch. gah. drives me nuts. or contractors. or what's worse, is those kids, (usually in secondary school uniform for some reason), going through their entire ringtone collection. at volume level 5. *faint* or composing! at the same volume. and replaying the whole thing from scratch after EVERY note they add. oh, -and-, it's considered polite when you dial a wrong number to apologise to the person who picks up. after all, you were the idiot in question here. and if you've figured out i can't speak chinese/cantonese/hokkien/whichever, don't heave a huge disgusted sigh before hanging up. not my fucking problem you're an idiot with a stick up your ass. (*cough* bit of a sore spot there eh? *grin*)

5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not?
usually for small things I'd sms people. but for things that are rather detailed, i'll call, it's not worth typing everything out in an email. and it's easier to correct a misunderstanding on the phone. faster too.

bleh. i hate this. just got up, so i know i won't be able to sleep til some ungodly hour like 4 or 5am, which is... bad, cos i'll fall asleep during tomorrows hellishly boring lectures. *groan* but in a way i guess it's also good, since i'm going to have to start doing the introduction for our final year project report. *screams in frustration* or rather, i would scream in frustration, if i so much as had the energy. a lot of us have started looking like members of the legion of the walking dead. or walking undead, if you prefer. i'm tired. i need a break dammit. we all do. if not, i'm going to go fucking out of my mind. heh. if i haven't already.
